When phoning please don’t be surprised when we answer as Firebird as the phone line serves two businesses.
The flight office is situated at the end of the runway and has tea and coffee making facilities and a separate WC. Peter Snipe has kept his aeroplane at Draycot for a number of years and writes:
“Circuits are not encouraged, but if you have to, do them to the West (avoids overlying most houses). Owing to the fact that there is chalk under the soil the grass runways drain well and recover quickly from heavy rain. When arrving at 18, stay clear of the white house, just to the left of finals (noise abatement), slight dog leg required. … .Both ends of 18 - 36 have dead trees - so slight dog legs are required. Be aware that Lower Upham is very close by to the East and they operate on Safetycom. The East West runway is no longer in use. Model aircraft flying takes place on the airfield ¼ mile to the West. My description makes Draycot sound demanding, but Draycot Farm is the most tranquil, delightful and pleasant place I can think of to fly from. Email me if you want more of the above on pete.snipe@gmail.com”
